Very true! I experienced this myself being a second generation nikkei-jin which is the closest category to a 'pure' Japanese according to their thinking, LOL! I have the 'right' genes and in many cases I could blend in easily, but I was still treated as a foreigner in multiple situations in Japan. I wasn't particularly offended because, while I'm proud of my Japanese roots, I strongly identify my country of origin (Argentina) and the reality is that my nationality is not Japanese. However I never liked people asking me, So when are you going back to your country? Most Japanese people think that foreigners will eventually leave Japan. By not fully welcoming them to live there long term, they are missing on great opportunities to leverage diverse ideas and enhance innovation and change.
